Dried Distiller Grains
Corn Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles (DDGS) are a by-product of ethanol production from maize grain. DDGS is typically golden in colour and widely used as a supplementary feed.
Feeding recommendations
DDGS is best used as part of a balanced ration, where it can contribute both energy and protein. As a guide, DDGS can make up to 30% of total diet dry matter. It is commonly included in feed blends and can improve palatability, particularly where minerals are present.
Inclusion rates should be adjusted based on overall diet requirements, particularly where additional protein is needed to support production.

Nutritional benefits
DDGS is a nutrient-dense feed, providing a strong source of protein along with moderate levels of fat.
Unlike cereal grains, much of its energy is supplied through digestible fibre and fat rather than starch. This makes DDGS a useful option for supporting milk production while helping to reduce the risk of rumen acidosis in high-supplement diets.

Feed storage on farm
As with any grain or meal feed, products need to be kept dry, as moisture combined with heat can cause fungi to grow. Common on-farm storage methods are: in a shed or unused fertiliser bin; in a covered pit; on a concrete pad; or in a cutting, covered with a plastic sheet and tyres. Most feed should be used reasonably expediently (within 40 - 50 days). The longer you plan to store feed products, the better your storage facilities need to be.
